Bascom Maple Farms finds alternative way to sweeten up baked goods

05.31.2023

BRATTLEBORO, VT.— Bascom Maple Farms is incorporating their maple products in pastries, desserts, and confectionery items for baked goods manufacturers.

The maple syrups and maple sugars may act as a natural sweetener alternative in baked goods, according to the company.

“Traditional cane sugar is a staple ingredient in the bakery industry that provides sweetness, texture, moisture, and more to various products,” said Arnold Coombs, executive director of sales and marketing, Bascom Maple Farms. “However, with health and wellness trends continuously growing in popularity, consumer attitudes are shifting, and the demand for alternative sweeteners and cleaner labels is more important than ever. Like traditional sugar, maple can be used to contribute subtle flavor, browning, and moisture to bakery products—all while providing wholesome goodness and proudly wearing a clean label.”

The company said their maple syrup and sugar may help manufacturers provide enhanced flavor, texture, and visual appeal. They may also provide a source of micronutrients with its antioxidant, mineral, and bioactive plant compounds and they also meet in-demand label claims, according to the company.
